Mark Hearld Talks Tapestry

Discover artist and designer Mark Hearld's passion for tapestry in this conversation with Dovecot's Master Weaver Naomi Robertson.

Mark Hearld has championed the decorative arts in his practice since graduating from Glasgow School of Art and the Royal College of Art. In 2024, the artist spent a month at Dovecot working alongside the weaving studio team to prepare a design, which was woven by Dovecot and is on show at The Scottish Gallery from 27 November – 23 December 2025. Mark Hearld takes inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside, and has produced a range of etchings, screen prints and linocuts that have become widely known through book covers, wallpaper and fashion. His incredible creativity and enthusiasm for the printed image has led to commissions from Faber & Faber, Tate and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park among others.
