400 Years of Scottish Landscapes

Join James Knox, Curator Emeritus of the Fleming Collection, for a fascinating journey through 400 years of Scottish landscape art, ahead of Doveoct’s forthcoming exhibition, The Scottish Landscape: From Romance to Reality.

Drawing on stories and discoveries behind the exhibition, James will explore the artists, works and ideas that have shaped our vision of Scotland. Discover the scholarly story behind Pieter Bruegel’s depiction of the Bass Rock, hear about fascinating recent acquisitions for the Fleming Collection, and revisit much-loved works by Joan Eardley, Alexander Nasmyth and Ian Hamilton Finlay.

The talk will also shine a light on a pioneering group of Scottish artists whose work anticipated many of the environmental concerns we face today, offering a timely perspective on how artists have observed, interpreted and responded to a changing landscape.
