Bayeux Tapestry Talks: The Scottish Tapestry Trail

When Dovecot Studios exhibited the Prestonpans Tapestry in 2009, the display inspired not only the Great Tapestry of Scotland project but also the momentum for 20 more community textile artworks. Join Andrew Crummy, the artist and activist who has shaped these magnificent community embroideries to learn about the Scottish Tapestry Trail. This Trail celebrates Scotland’s rich heritage and culture through the art of stitching. Launched in Inverness this Autumn, it aims to sustain a vibrant network that preserves and shares Scotland’s stories through textile art. 

Andrew Crummy is the artist responsible for the design of the Great Tapestry of Scotland and the Scottish Diaspora Tapestry. Following a career with London design agencies and as an illustrator and muralist, in 2009 Crummy agreed to design the Prestonpans Tapestry after an idea from Gordon Prestoungrange to tell the story in the same format as the Bayeux Tapestry. Since then he has been involved in a further 20 embroidery projects including, In 2021, the opening of The Great Tapestry of Scotland visitor attraction in Galashiels. Crummy has received a number of honours for his community work including an MBE and Honorary Doctorate from Dundee University.

Every ticket sold supports the work of The Dovecot Foundation to advance visual art, craft and design in all its forms.
