Join award-winning costume designer Dinah Collin in conversation with curator Keith Lodwick for a fascinating look at her remarkable career in costume design.

Dinah will talk about her early career and her first days working at the BBC, as well as some of the other much-loved productions she has worked on. The conversation will explore her approach to costume design, her inspirations, and the many different projects that have shaped her career.

At the heart of the conversation, however, will be Dinah’s work on the 1995 BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth. Dinah will take us behind the scenes of the production, discussing how the adaptation came together, her design process and inspirations, and how the costumes helped create its distinctive world and bring its characters to life.

Dinah’s costumes have become an iconic part of the adaptation and are widely celebrated as one of the reasons it remains so beloved, thirty years after it first aired. This special conversation offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from the designer behind some of its most memorable looks and discover the stories behind their creation.

The event accompanies our current exhibition, Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop, celebrating six decades of the renowned costume house. The exhibition features six original costumes from Pride and Prejudice, including the now-iconic wet shirt worn by Colin Firth as Mr Darcy.
