Drawing on Style presents original fashion illustrations from the 1960s and 1970s to complement The Biba Story: 1964–1975

This exciting display is free to visit and presents fashion illustration as both an important art form, and an enduring testament to creativity and style. The 1960s and 1970s marked a defining era for fashion illustration, a period when line, colour and gesture captured not only the silhouette of style but the spirit of cultural change.

Presented in collaboration with Gray M.C.A, the world’s leading specialists in original fashion illustration, Drawing on Style is a rare opportunity to acquire work by the 20th century masters of the medium with further framed and unframed illustrations being available to purchase in store.

About the Artist:

Veronica “Vee” Papworth (1913–1992) was born in North London and began her career at just 17, illustrating men’s clothing for catalogues. By the late 1950s, she had moved to the Sunday Express, where she authored her own column on a wide range of topics, often accompanied by her distinctive and elegant fashion illustrations.
