Ever wondered what happens under the surface of the soil? Or whether it's possible to make art from soil? This workshop explores the pigmentation of soil from different parts of Scotland, ranging from deep russets to ochre yellows. You will dive through microscopes into the fascinating world of the creatures which live under and on the surface of the soil, taking inspiration from the microscopic beings who decompose and recycle much of Earth's nutrients.
Working with artist Natalie Taylor, who exhibited her soil based paintings in 2022 at RBGE in the Living Soil exhibition, the workshop explores how to make paint from scratch from collected soils, what additives to use to make the soil stick to the paper surface, and then how to paint with this ancient material - expect the unexpected!
All materials are provided.
