Slow down, stitch by stitch, and create a beautiful hand-crafted needlebook inspired by the tradition of decorative textile embellishment.

Working from a simple fabric foundation, you'll build rich layers using fragments of reclaimed fabrics, lace and treasured textile scraps before embellishing your work with a variety of hand embroidery stitches. As your stitching grows, so too will your confidence, transforming everyday materials into a unique and practical keepsake.

Along the way you'll learn simple appliqué techniques, visible mending and upcycling skills, together with a selection of versatile hand embroidery stitches that can be used to personalise clothing, accessories and future textile projects.

Whether you're completely new to embroidery or already enjoy working with textiles, this workshop offers a wonderfully relaxed and restorative day of making. Slow stitching encourages us to pause, enjoy the rhythm of hand sewing and reconnect with the pleasure of creating something by hand.

Presented alongside Dovecot's Costume Couture: Sixty Years of Cosprop exhibition, this workshop celebrates the artistry, craftsmanship and decorative detail that lie at the heart of exceptional textile making.

Suitable for beginners and those with some stitching experience. All materials are provided but you’re very welcome to bring any special or meaningful pieces of fabric you’d like to incorporate into your needlebook.
