Tapestry Colour Studies: Chris Ofili, The Caged Bird’s Song
Couldn't load pickup availability
Commissioned by The Clothworkers' Company, the tapestry took two and a half years to complete and was unveiled at The National Gallery in London as the centrepiece to an exhibition titled Chris Ofili: Weaving Magic from April to August 2017. The work now hangs in its permanent home at the Clothworkers' Hall, in the heart of London. In 2024, Dovecot held an exhibition which showcased the tapestry in the Studios where it was woven and explored the weavers’ work, the process, and the skills required to interpret an artist’s design.
The imagery and design created by Ofili reflects that artists' ongoing interest in classical mythology and contemporary demigods, together with the stories, magic and colour of the Trinidadian landscape he inhabits.
