The Great Tapestry of Scotland is an outstanding celebration of Scottish history and achievement, represented in 160 panels that make up this extraordinary work of art. In this talk, celebrated historian Dr Alistair Moffat MBE presents an enlightening overview of this historical record.

The event is followed by a special book signing of The Great Tapestry of Scotland by Alistair Moffat and includes entry to the exhibition Stitched: Scotland's Embroidered Art.

Alistair Moffat, Scotland’s people’s historian and co-chair of The Great Tapestry of Scotland during the making and touring phase of its development, was initially asked by Alexander McCall Smith to explore and guide the narrative that is reflected by Andrew Crummy and the stitchers visually throughout the Tapestry. He worked with the public, the parliament and the media to establish what should be included and went on to write the accompanying descriptive panels as well as a longer and more detailed history. He was then instrumental in establishing a permanent home for this work of art, in a purpose built gallery in the Scottish Borders and continues to sit on the advisory board.

Alistair has written more than 30 best-selling books on Scotland and her history. His latest is The Highlands and Islands of Scotland: A New History.
